Crewe club hosting Steampunk spectacula

A Crewe club will rock to the sound of Steampunk next month when two evenings of music and cabaret take place as part of the May Bank Holiday events package.

The Mals Club, on Beech Street behind ASDA car park, will stage a Cabaret Show (26 May) and a Concert (27 May) as a variety of well-known Steampunk acts bring their unique brand of entertainment to Crewe.

The ticketed evening shows will follow a range of daytime entertainment scheduled to take place throughout the Bank Holiday weekend around Crewe town centre.

The Steampunk movement is a quirky celebration of Victorian fashion, art and steam-powered mechanical inventions. With elements of gothic styling and punk attitude it’s fun and liberating.

Festival organiser David Smith said: “There are no strict rules with Steampunk and we invite people to be themselves and enjoy something a bit different.

“There’s a cult following but everyone is welcome to see what it’s all about. The Mals Club is perfect to generate a fabulous atmosphere, and I guarantee there is something for all tastes – music, dance, mystique and excitement.”

Saturday 26 May (£14) promises a wave of talent. The Rhythm ‘n’ Roots band headline with a raft of favourite tunes. The popular covers band gets crowds dancing with classics from Bob Marley, UB40, John Holt and The Specials – all with a cunning twist.

Compared by uber-talented Greg Chapman, the Retro Clones, burlesque Lux Delioux and Kessie Dixon make up a mouth-watering melee of musicians and artistes.

On Sunday 27 May (£15), headline act The Filthy Spectacula bring a bit of gypsy punk, a dash of dark cabaret and a hint of piracy. The raucous four-piece band of self-styled vagabonds invite you to drink, dance and sing along to a play list sure to shiver your timbers.
